Full Front vs Full Body PPF: How Much Coverage Do You Need?

A plain-English guide to PPF coverage levels, partial front, full front, track packages, and full body, so you can match protection to how you actually drive.

Coverage Is a Spectrum, Not a Yes/No

The most common question after 'should I get PPF' is 'how much do I need?' Paint protection film is not all-or-nothing. It comes in coverage levels, and the right one depends on how and where you drive, how long you plan to keep the vehicle, and your budget.

Think of it as matching protection to risk. The front of the car takes the overwhelming majority of road-debris damage, so coverage decisions almost always start there and expand outward.

Partial Front: The Essentials

A partial front (sometimes called a 'partial hood' or 'bra-replacement' kit) covers the leading edge of the hood, the front bumper, the mirrors, and often a strip of the fenders.

It is the budget-friendly entry point and stops the most frequent low-speed chips. The downside: it leaves a visible film edge partway up the hood, and the rest of the hood and fenders stay exposed. Best for daily drivers who want basic insurance against parking-lot and city chips.

Full Front: The Most Popular Choice

A full front wraps the entire hood, full fenders, front bumper, mirrors, and usually the A-pillars and a section of the roof's leading edge. Many shops add headlight film here too.

This is the package most owners land on. It protects every panel that faces highway debris with no awkward mid-hood edge, and it covers the zones that cost the most to repaint. If you drive highway miles, this is the sweet spot of cost versus protection.

Track, Rocker, and Full Body

Beyond the full front, coverage expands to match harder use:

Rocker panels and lower doors catch tire-thrown debris on longer trips, a common add-on to a full front.

Track and off-road packages extend film to rear quarters, wider rocker coverage, and leading edges that take a beating at speed or on the trail.

Full body wraps every painted surface. It is the choice for exotics, collectibles, high-resale vehicles, and anyone who wants the finish flawless for the life of the car, including color PPF when the goal is a full transformation plus protection.

How to Decide

Match the package to the vehicle and the driving:

City commuter you will trade in a few years: partial or full front.

Highway miles, long-term keep, or a vehicle you care about: full front plus rockers.

Track days, off-road, exotic, or maximum resale: track package or full body.

The best next step is a conversation with a professional installer who can look at your specific vehicle and how you drive. A ONE PPF dealer can recommend the right coverage and films, and our PPF by Vehicle pages outline typical packages for popular models.
